Enneagram Type 4: "The Individualist," Runner-up
Original Painting. 5 x 7 inches, acrylic ink and graphite on yupo paper. Signed by artist.
Made (1 of 8) on the quest to capture the essence of Enneagram Type 4: “the individualist.” I used all the rich, deep colors I could find to represent both the depth and breadth of feeling that type 4s experience and pursue: the darkness and the lightness are of equal importance, as they embrace and do not shy away from suffering. Their inner landscape is a kaleidoscope of shifting emotional reactions. In addition, due to recommendations by 4s near and dear to me, I chose to NOT draw a geometric shape with graphite to represent this type, as a shape is too limiting and confining for the unique, ever expansive inner world and outsider identity which the individualist lives and holds dear. Plus every other type will have a shape which goes along with the theme of feeling unique, one-of -a-kind but also the inkling that something about them is of lacking or missing that everyone else possesses. One of the characteristics I admire the most about 4s is their ability to create mood, beauty and ambience in the most holistic, balanced aesthetic way possible. And with these type 4 paintings, I found myself entranced by the complex colors representing balanced and layered beauty.
